The Homeless World Cup is an annual international football competition for players who are homeless or socially excluded. The Homeless World Cup has been held annually since 2003, when the inaugural tournament took place in Graz, Austria. Since then it has been held in Gothenburg, Sweden (2004), Edinburgh, Scotland (2005), Cape Town, South Africa (2006) and Copenhagen, Denmark (2007).
The Big Issue successfully won the bid for the upcoming competition and will proudly host the Homeless World Cup in December 2008.
Schools are invited to get involved with the Homeless World Cup 2008 by taking part in the Adopt A Team program. The Adopt A Team program is an opportunity to enrich the learning of thousands of Australian schools students and at the same time make it possible for some of the more disadvantaged nations to come to Melbourne to participate.
